Rescu + Mauka
Improving emergency dispatch
The Partnership.
Mauka has been a technology partner of Rescu and it's parent company, Watchlight, since 2014. Together, Rescu and Mauka have leveraged data and industry experience to improve safety and emergency response.
Rescu identified critical problems within the safety industry. One issue is that the 9-1-1 system is stressed by staffing shortages and high non-emergency call volume. 35% of calls are non-emergency - made worse by smart devices with SoS features to automatically place calls to 9-1-1. Additionally, the safety industry is disconnected and fragmented - making solving these problems difficult.
Together, Rescu and Mauka went to work combining operational excellence with data and technology to create industry-leading solutions. Mauka's Vector-z development services helped Rescu become a vertically integrated safety technology company by providing critical software architecture, design and engineering.
Continuous innovation and tight collaboration between Rescu and Mauka delivered the Rescu mobile app for individuals and the Rescu industrial app for organizations. Rescu and Mauka then decided to offer some of the foundational APIs as pay-for-use services to integration partners. Throughout the partnership, Rescu and Mauka continue to explore innovative ways to create value and improve public safety.
The Technology.
Engineering.
The critical nature of Rescu requires low-level, low-latency communications that avoid abstraction and third-party frameworks. Data transport must be engineered for speed and also for reliability. In an emergency, the right information needs to be at the right place at the right time. The engineering understands that even though everything is critical in a life emergency, some data are more critical than others. Determining data priority is often contextual and temporal.
Everything matters in an emergency and Mauka engineering for Rescu uses asynchronous as well as synchronous processing to ensure lives are saved, events are logged, and data is maintained in time sequence. Seconds count with Rescu.
Mauka Vector-z services created highest quality software releases and updates using CICD pipelines, testing automation, the use of multiple testing groups, and end-to-end production monitoring.
Experience.
User experience is also important to successful outcomes during an emergency. Proper onboarding, user engagement, and trust make the difference when fractions of a second matter.
Mauka balanced ease of use, intuitive screens, and minimal habit development with maximum situational understanding to make the process of dispatching emergency services as fast and intelligent as possible.
Constant and meaningful communication in stressful situations is important to maintaining calm. Mauka made sure that the entire experience is as clear and transparent as possible. Bi-directional, real-time updates keep dispatchers and Rescu users aware and informed.
Why it matters.
No second chances.
Rescu and Mauka save and change lives every day. From apartment building fires, to heart attacks, to random violent encounters - Rescu delivers positive outcomes. For others with serious health issues, Rescu and Mauka increase the size of their world by enabling them to travel greater distances safely and with confidence.
Mauka Vector-z mobile development provides engineering that meets the demands of life-saving emergency dispatch.
Vector-z scales up to meet the highest-levels of speed and reliability. Vector-z can also be scaled down to meet more modest customer need. Mauka specializes in fitting complexity and cost to the customer. In the case of our partnership with Rescu, everything is on the line every time someone opens Rescu app. We are proud to be Rescu's technology partner.
