The Mauka Story
Mauka Technology was created as a result of two colliding ideas
American mid-market companies are facing unique challenges. Our team knows how to overcome those challenges better than anyone else
Idea 1:
I grew up in the Midwest, where small towns were home to mom-and-pop businesses: five-and-dime stores, butchers, bakeries, and all-you-can-eat catfish. But today, those same small towns are boarded up. Local diners have been replaced with a few chain restaurants. Merchants have been replaced with one-stop grocery store chains or completely shut down leaving residents to drive to other towns to shop at mega-stores. Amazon and online retail has further impacted local commerce. These towns look very different today.
Don't get me wrong. These strong competitors that brought broad consolidation and redefined the functional economy have also brought incredible innovation. Amazon, for example, has pushed logistics to new levels. And while consolidation, at times, has a monopoly feel to it, these companies have raised the bar on performance and set entirely new customer expectations. They should be learned from.
Idea 2:
Our team at Mauka Technology has worked in many different industries and with all imaginable business areas. Our background is leveraging technology to create competitive advantage in some of the most challenging industries. Yet, for all of the technology and process improvements over the past 30 years of software development, the rate of failure of software projects is staggering. Few of these failures have anything to do with software, itself.
We have seen and learned that software exists to move business forward - to achieve business objectives. It takes alignment of technology with business objectives to realize success. In the course of our careers, we have learned from different industries how they manage risk, how they plan product development and launch, and how they grow their business in various markets.
The collision - and our mission:
Mid-market companies are the powerhouse of the American economy. The majority of these businesses do not have strong technology competencies. But as we know, technology is required to remain relevant in nearly every industry and market today. Technology-enabled competitors are pulling further ahead of non-technology companies. The pace of this gap is increasing.
At Mauka Technology, we are helping those mid-market American companies compete without the need to become software experts. We know how to bring together business and technology, fill the gaps we know are required for success, and drive aggressively into the marketplace - where business growth and new business models occur. We are passionate about helping our customers take an idea to market as quickly as possible, and sustaining that success in the marketplace. The cost of technology is lower than ever before. American innovation and grit are still the keys to competition.
